This sculptural masterpiece serves to pay tribute to all service men and women and their families who also make sacrifices while their loved ones serve in the United States Armed Forces.

The sculpture depicts two powerful stories united by common themes of an open window and treasured letter, combining the experiences of those serving and those providing support from home. On one side, an eagle, the symbol of American pride and valor, frames the scene of a resting soldier holding a letter from a loved one at home. On the opposite side, an angel, a beacon of hope and faith, frames the scene of a family member holding a letter from their loved in service.

This monument will stand as a timeless testament to military families and friends; the unseen strength behind every service member. A tribute to courage, strength and selfless bravery as Armed Forces members and their families choose confidence and encouragement over uncertainty and fear.

ABOUT THE ARTIST TIMOTHY P. SCHMALZ

Timothy P. Schmalz is a world renowned sculptor from Ontario, Canada. After sculpting exclusively in bronze for large public monuments and hundreds of religious based ` commissions, Schmalz continues to work on large-scale projects around the world.

Schmalz philosophy on sculpture is simple - work should be beautiful and tell a story of something. The power of the sculpture is determined by what is represented and a great historical event is a subject that will lend itself to becoming a great sculpture.

This sculpture is the original cast of the model for the National Monument to Military Families of America- and graces Freedom Courtyard thanks to the generosity of the Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation.
